SETARA 2022
In 2017, IIUM was awarded 5 stars for SETARA in the mature university category. SETARA is a rating system carried out by the Ministry of Higher Education to assess Malaysia’s university and colleges through three main functions which are teaching and learning, research and innovation and services to community and industry.
SETARA shows IIUM which areas that need to be improved. With that in mind, IIUM needs more lecturers with industrial experience. In a way, the CEO@Faculty programme, opened opportunities for more lecturers to engage with the industries for the purpose of learning, sharing and co-creating knowledge that is beneficial for the university. In the past two years, 13 academic staff have joined the programme and more have been trained at the industry level and have been sharing what they have learned from the corporations through in-house trainings, workshops, and seminars among others.
Students have also been encouraged to join mobility programmes overseas. The outbound mobility programmes allow students to be exposed to different cultures and to interact and build international networking. This is the area highlighted by SETARA in 2019. However, for the past two years, the mobility programmes have been put on halt due to the pandemic. Since the traveling restrictions have now been lifted, more students are able to go for student-exchange programmes.
