Special Crowdfunding Campaign for Enhancing the Sound System at IIUM Sultan Ahmad Shah Mosque, Gombak Campus
Objective
The objective of this project is to collect funds through a crowdfunding campaign aimed at enhancing the sound system at the IIUM Sultan Ahmad Shah Mosque, located on the Gombak Campus. This initiative is crucial to improve the overall prayer experience and address the current sound quality issues faced by mosque attendees.
Background
The IIUM Sultan Ahmad Shah Mosque in Gombak commenced operations in 1997. With its 4-level building, the mosque can accommodate up to 9,000 worshippers simultaneously. The main floor, which is vast, is currently equipped with an AV system to enhance the experience of congregational prayers. However, there have been complaints from mosque attendees regarding unclear sound in certain areas.
To address this issue, the mosque management engaged a sound or AV consulting company in 2023 to evaluate the situation. The consultant delivered a comprehensive report on February 15, 2023, outlining the identified problems and proposed solutions, summarized as follows:
Problems Identified:
1. Sound Pressure Level Issue
2. Blind Spot Issue
3. Clarity Issue
4. Defective Horn Speakers
Proposed Solutions:
1. Addition of 4 new speakers at identified locations.
2. Relocation of existing speakers to a minimum height of 5 meters from the floor, along with the addition of a few new speakers.
3. Installation of a new digital matrix mixer with an Imam preset to allow for better sound adjustment and improved sound clarity tailored to individual Imams.
4. Addition of a power sequencer to prevent current surges and replacement of the amplifier with a more heavy-duty one suitable for horn speaker applications.
About the Crowdfund
Given that the University has no specific budget allocation for this project, the University management has approved the IIUM Sultan Ahmad Shah Mosque to launch a crowdfunding campaign. The target fundraising goal is set between RM60,000 to RM90,000. If the amount received exceeds the actual cost of the project, the excess funds will be used for other SHAS mosque maintenance.
